OUR BABY DUCKLING

Well it has been a crazy start to our week...we came home from being with family on Sunday (Mother's Day) and we found a brand new baby duckling stuck on our porch. We didn't know what to do and it was so late we decided to leave it for the night. We were worried about it getting cold so we brought out a box with a blanket in it. In the Morning we went looking for it's mom, but no such luck, we searched the whole day. We knew it was getting hungry, and we offered it different things, but it did not eat. Since new ducks have a imprinting instict (meaning they follow whatever they believe to be their mom) it soon began following us everywhere, it even followed Pika our dog, it was so funny and yet sad, cause we thought we were going to just have to leave it to fend for itself. I couldn't do it, I had Zach call animal control and they came and got it. The guy was so nice he said he knew a lady who took in abandoned birds like this and she rehabilitates them. I was so relieved. I was almost in tears thinking I was going to have to leave it at a pond somwhere. I originally tried that and it just kept peeping and following me back to the car, plus the other ducks were biting it and pushing it away, you should have seen me fight back at those darn things. It was quite the adventure, I miss the cute thing.

So cute! I was driving to the hospital on Friday to see Scott & Ashlie's baby and there was a mom duck and her babies crossing the freeway. It was so cute and so sad at the same. I just hope they made it to the other side!

That video is so cute. It really is the book "Are you my mother?" in action. You guys are so sweet to take such good care of it. Thanks for the advice on the baby food. It got me really excited to start that big process :) See you on Monday!
What should we do for a picnic?

Why didn't you keep the duck? Just kidding. That is a cute story though and what a darling little video. I can just see you fighting off all those ducks and protecting your little duckling.
